A new benchmark for burial design in Australia. The unique program was inspired by the scarcity of appropriate burial sites in metropolitan capitals.
The premise is for a community asset reaching beyond its function as a cemetery. Conflicting site conditions such as flooding, protected flora and fauna, bushfire and public amenity were synthesised into this innovation in design for burials.
A major river bounds the site to the west, with incredible biodiversity across the undulating topography. A vehicle path loops the site connecting structures for funeral, cremation and burial functions. The sinuously curvaceous forms were inspired by the movement of water across the undulating site during seasonal inundation.
